Jayne A. Torrez, 61, of Newton died of ovarian cancer Wednesday, May 4, 2005, in the Monarch Wing of Skiff Medical Center in Newton.

Memorial services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Newton with the Rev. Carrie Lewis officiating. Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton is handling arrangements.

The family will greet friends immediately following the service with a lunch at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to the Jasper County Humane Society and Animal Rescue League. Memorials may be left at the funeral home or at the church on the morning of the service.

The daughter of Garold B. "Fuzzy" and Audrey M. (Henning) Fullmer, she was born Aug. 13, 1943, in Newton. She graduated from Newton Senior High School in 1961 and was a graduate of Drake University. On July 3, 1964, she married Dennis C. Torrez in Newton. She was a circulation clerk at the Newton Public Library for 11 years. She was an avid reader. She traveled the United States and Europe with her husband during his 30-year career in the U.S. Air Force. They moved back to Newton in 1992.

Survivors include her husband; a son, Dennis G. (Kimette) Torrez of Grimes; two daughters, Audrey (Rick) Lukanen of Alexandria, Minn., and Angela (Brad) Ellenbecker of Kearney, Neb.; six grandchildren; and her father, Garold "Fuzzy" Fullmer of Newton.

She was preceded in death by her mother.
