COLFAX — Norma Jean Sumpter, 74, of Colfax died at her home Monday, April 4, 2005.

A funeral mass will be held on Friday at 10 a.m. at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Colfax. Burial will follow at Restland Cemetery in Baxter.

Visitation will be held from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, where the family will be present to greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. A prayer vigil will begin at 7:30 p.m.

Memorials may be given to Hospice of Jasper County.

The daughter of James and Effie (Muchler) Hill, she was born Jan. 18, 1931, in Mitchellville. On May 19, 1950, she was united in marriage to John A. Sumpter at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Colfax.

Self-described as a homemaker, Mrs. Sumpter was employed in nursing homes, residential cleaning and as a cook at the Interfaith Center in Colfax for nearly 15 years.

Survivors include her children, Michael Charles Sumpter and Patricia Dell Lourens, both of Colfax; a sister, Doris Hunt of Colfax; a brother, Wayne Hill of Colfax; and a granddaughter.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a brother, Glen; and a sister, Geraldine Sherman.
