Carroll F. Talbot, 74, of 1005 N. Fourth Ave. E. died Monday, Feb. 21, 2005, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at Pence-Reese Funeral Home in Newton with the Rev. Cathleen Bascom, pastor of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church in Newton, officiating. Burial will be at Newton Union Cemetery.

Friends may call after 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home, where the family will be available from noon to 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials will be accepted in his name.

The son of Harold I. and Mildred Lucille (Shoemake) Talbot, he was born Aug. 11, 1930, in Newton. He attended Newton schools. On March 6, 1951, he married Frances Eva Keith in Knoxville. He was a generator serviceman for 20 years for Winpower, worked for Jasper County Maintenance Highway Dept. for 17 years and Axtel Ford as a mechanic. He enjoyed bowling, reading and antiques. He also enjoyed being a driver and mechanic for stock cars at Newton Speedway.

Survivors include two sons and a daughter-in-law, Randall "Randy" Talbot and Jeff and Sherrie Talbot, all of Newton; a daughter and son-in-law, Shirley and Marion "Buck" Collins of Newton; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and two sisters and a brother-in-law, Edythe "Polly" Malson and Phylliss and Robert Trotter, all of Newton.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; two daughters, Barbara Sue Talbot and Brenda Lee Talbot; a sister, Shirley Elaine; and two brothers, Robert Talbot and Donald Brady.
