Clyde W. Snook, 87, of 1000 E. 14th St. S. died Sunday, Jan. 16, 2005, in the Monarch Wing of Skiff Medical Center in Newton.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at Pence-Reese Funeral Home in Newton with the Rev. Eric Simpson of Eagle Church in Zionsville, Ind., officiating. Burial will be at Newton Memorial Park Cemetery.

Friends may call after 1 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, where the family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials will be accepted in his name, to Elk's Lodge or Hospice of Jasper County.

The son of William Snook and Beatrice Charlesworth, he was born May 12, 1917, in Newton. He attended Newton schools. On Sept. 10, 1938, he married Geraldine Lornaine Thacher. He later married Gladys Rickabaugh on Oct. 18, 1981. He was a farmer and worked as a forklift driver at Maytag. He retired in 1978.

Mr. Snook was a former member of the Moose Lodge, was a life member of Newton Elks Lodge No. 1270, Jasper County Farm Bureau and Sully Co-op. He enjoyed playing cards, including World Series of Poker and pitch at the Elks Lodge. He also enjoyed dancing, horse races, the outdoors and fishing.

Survivors include three daughters and two sons-in-law, Kay Beard, Karen and David Strovers and Kathy and Dwight Van Roekel, all of Newton; two step-daughters, Shelly Zarling of Des Moines and Sherri Rickabaugh of Carlisle; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; four step-grandchildren; five step-great-grandchildren; a sister, Lois I. Koger of Van Nuys, Calif.; a brother and sister-in-law, Francis W. and Betty Snook of Newton; and special friend, Marceil Sieck of Grinnell and her family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, both wives, a granddaughter and a great-granddaughter.
