Ruth Marie Sliger, 67, of Newton died Wednesday, March 9, 2005, at her home.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Monroe Presbyterian Church. Burial will be at Silent City Cemetery.

Visitation will be held Friday from 2 to 8 p.m. at Walters-Coburn Funeral Home in Monroe, where the family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials may be given to the Ruth Marie Sliger Memorial Funds.

The daughter of Izeck and Goldie (Wright) Shipman, she was born Oct. 5, 1937, in Iowa City. On Nov. 1, 1956, she married John H. Sliger in Mingo.

She is survived by her husband, John of Newton; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Wayne and Brigitte Sliger of Iowa City, John "Will" and Renee Sliger of Colfax and Larry Sliger of Des Moines; a daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Timothy Stevens of Des Moines; 17 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Robert; a grandson; and two sisters, Nadine and Nancy.
