Ludgardis "Lu" Scribner, 86, of Newton, and formerly of Des Moines and Grinnell, died Saturday, March 19, 2005, at USA Health Care in Newton.

A funeral mass will be held Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Grinnell with the Rev. William Reynolds officiating. Burial will be at Hazelwood Cemetery in Grinnell.

Visitation will be held from noon to 9 p.m. today at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell, where the family will present from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. A scripture service will be held at 6 p.m. today at the funeral home with a rosary service to follow.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the Willowbrook Adult Day Services, Hospice of Jasper County or to Grinnell Regional Hospice.

Survivors include three daughters and sons-in-law, Patricia and Jerry Kinnaird of Salina, Kan., Rosemary and Floyd Innis Jr.; and Lou Ann and Thomas Hill, all of Newton; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; her brothers and sisters, Agnes Jaeger of Quincy, Ill., Theresa Peiffer and Harold Peiffer, both of Des Moines, Lyola Kaska of Fairfield, Clarence Peiffer, Margie Bower and Dennis Peiffer, all of Sigourney, Phyllis Salm of Iowa City and Marian Emmack of Des Moines; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, August and Anna Striegel Peiffer; her husband, Verle "Scrib" Scribner; a great-granddaughter; and three brothers, Arthur, Cornelius and Donald Peiffer.
