William Elrod Dies at Monroe, Rites Saturday
Monroe (Special) – William Elrod, 90, who lived most of his life in southwest Jasper county, died yesterday at the home of his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Wagner, who farm just west of Monroe.
Mr. Elrod was in failing health for a number of years.
He was born in Monongahela, Pa., on Feb. 21, 1861, and when eight years old came to Jasper county with his parents. On March 23, 1886, he was married to Henrietta Der Kendostch at Monroe.
Mr. Elrod was a farmer most of his active life, farming in the vicinities of Monroe and Prairie City. He is survived by two sons, Carl and W. C. Elrod of Prairie City, and two daughters, Mrs. Wagner of Monroe and Mrs. Mabel Jarnagan of Detroit, Mich.
He was preceded in death by his wife seven years ago and one son, who died in 1901 at the age of 16. Mr. Elrod was a member of the Methodist church, the Masonic Order and The Daily News Three-Quarter Century club.
Funeral services will be held tomorrow afternoon at two 0’clock in the Pleasant Hill church west of Monroe with Rev. Lester C. Hall, pastor of the Prairie City Methodist church, officiating. Burial will be in the Griffith cemetery.

Monroe News – J. W. Berkenbosch had surgery Thursday, July 8, at the Mercy Hospital in Des Moines. Mr. Berkenbosch passed away on Thursday July 10, and funeral services were held Saturday afternoon in Monroe.
