Jake Berkenbosch, Retired Monroe Farmer, Is Dead
Monroe (Special) – Jake Berkenbosch, 83, retired farmer of this vicinity, died yesterday afternoon in Mercy hospital at Des Moines following brain surgery a week ago.
Mr. Berkenbosch was born in Marion county near Pella. He married Lucinda Woods, and the couple farmed west of Monroe for many years. He retired about 16 years ago, and the couple moved into Monroe at that time.
Survivors include his wife; five daughters, Mrs. W. R. (Lela) Roberts of Prairie City, Mrs. Henry (Vera) Steenhoek of Monroe, Mrs. Freeman (Wilma) Hendricks of Reasnor, Mrs. Joe (Hazel) Tomlonovic of Newton, and Mrs. Fern Franks, Berwin, Ill.; and one son, Gerald, Reasnor.
Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon at two o’clock in the Monroe Methodist church and at the graveside in the Griffis cemetery four miles west of Monroe. Rev. Russell Nye will be officiating clergyman and the Crumpacker Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Monroe News – J. W. Berkenbosch had surgery Thursday, July 8, at the Mercy Hospital in Des Moines. Mr. Berkenbosch passed away on Thursday July 10, and funeral services were held Saturday afternoon in Monroe.
