James McGriff, Local Resident, Dies at Age 45
James W. McGriff, 45, lifetime resident of Newton, died Saturday at Skiff Memorial hospital after an illness of 17 days.
Funeral services will be held tomorrow afternoon at two ‘clock at Toland Funeral Home with Rev. James Keiller, pastor of the Full Gospel church, officiating. Burial will be in Newton Union cemetery.
Mr. McGriff was born in Newton on March 30, 1906, to Will and Grace McGriff. He attended schools here and was employed as a shopman at the Parsons Co. He lived at 704 East Fifth street South.
Survivors are his widow, Caroline; four children, Donnie, Cirlin, Michael and Roxy, all at home; his mother, Mrs. Grace McGriff of Newton; three sisters, Mrs. Florence Tish of Portland, Ore., Mrs. Leona Hood and Miss Norine McGriff, both of Newton, and one brother, Martin of Newton.
Music at the services will be by Dick McKibben, soloist, and Mrs. R L. Jackson, organist. On the flower committee will be Mrs. George Manly, Mrs. William White and Mrs. Josef Gobb. Pallbearers will be Robert Logue, Will Riebe, Josef Gobb, George Manly, William White and Lester Holder.
