Laurel (Special) - Dr. L. J. Wilkinson, 82, laurel area physician for more than 40 years, died Thursday afternoon at his home.

Hospitalized intermittently, Dr. Wilkinson had been in failing health for the past two years.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am Saturday at the Estel-Perrin funeral home chapel in Marshalltown.

The Rev. Nelson D. Murdock, pastor of the Center Friends Church northeast of Newton will conduct the services. Burial will be in Rose Hill Memorial Gardens at Marshalltown with Masonic graveside rites.

Dr. Wilkinson is survived by his wife; two grandchildren, George Robert and Marsha Ann, both of Iowa City; a foster daughter, Mrs. Jane Gorley of Marshalltown; and a sister, Mrs. Lucette West of Iowa City.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, George, in 1942; a brother and three sisters.

Dr. Wilkinson was a member of the Unitarian Church, the Masonic Lodge, Knights of Pythias and a past president of the Marshall County Medical Society.

The son of Gilpin and Sophoria Jennings Wilkinson, he was born March 13, 1878 in Cedar county.

After receiving his primary education in Cedar county rural schools and being graduated from Wilton Junction academy, he attended Cedar Falls State Normal School, later teaching in Cedar county rural schools.

Dr. Wilkinson was graduated from the State University of Iowa Medical School in 1907.

He was married to Mary L. Woods February 23, 1910 at Cedar Falls. They resided at Prairieburg, Iowa, where Dr. Wilkinson practiced before coming to Laurel in 1918.
