Shirley Iris Groom Arlt, 71, of 1105 E. 12th St. S. died Tuesday morning, June 13th, at her home.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am. Saturday at Wallace Pence Funeral Home.

The Rev. Bill Adams associate pastor of Community Heights Alliance Church will conduct services. Burial will be in Newton Union Cemetery. Memorial contributions to Community Heights Alliance church will be accepted.

Friends may call at the funeral home after 8 am Friday. Family visitation will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Survivors are a son, Duane K. of Anaheim, Calif.; two daughters, Jeanette R. (Mrs. Harold) Smith of Colfax and Gloria S. (Mrs. James) Stewart of Silvis, Ill.; nine grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and a sister Virginia (Mrs. John) Gambler of Harrisburg, Pa.

She was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers. Raymond, Laurel and Vernon Groom.

Mrs. Arlt a former Maytag employee attend the Community Heights Alliance Church.

The daughter of Ernest R. and Maybelle Ringgenberg Groom, she was born March 26,1918 in Sherburn, Minn., and was graduated from high school in Plummer, Minn.

Mrs. Arlt came to Newton in 1947, and resided there until moving to Quad Cities area in Iowa where she lived for 10 years. She then resided in Anaheim, Calif., for four years. During this period she worked as a housekeeper and nanny for families in the areas. In 1983 she returned to Newton. ~ Newton Daily News, Newton Iowa, June 14th,1989
