Paul O. Ray, 72, of Newton died Sunday, May 30, 2005, in the Monarch Wing of Skiff Medical Center in Newton.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton with the Rev. Gary Marzolf of the First United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be at Newton Union Cemetery.

Friends may call after 4 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, where the family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials will be accepted to the Monarch Wing of Skiff Medical Center and may be left at the funeral home.

The son of Troy and Elizabeth (Osten) Ray, he was born Nov. 24, 1932, in rural Jasper County. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. On March 17, 1956, he married Pauline Ross in Monroe. He worked part-time at Bisom Truck Line, Gralnek-Dunitz Co. and Walters Lumber. He lived in Newton most of his life.

Mr. Ray is survived by his wife; a son, Randy (Teresa) Ray of Newton; two daughters, Paula (Tom) Meade and Connie Oberhart and Dave Moss, all of Newton; six grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; a brother, Delmar (Linda) Ray of Newton; and a sister, Marybelle (Bill) Conrad of Wasola, Mo.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
