Richard F. "Dick" Peters, 70, of Newton died Monday, Feb. 21, 2005, at his home.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton with the Rev. Gary Marzolf of the First United Methodist Church officiating. His body will be cremated following the service. Burial will be held at later date at Newton Union Cemetery.

Friends may call after 5 p.m. today at the funeral home, where the family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials will be accepted to Hospice of Jasper County, the First United Methodist Church or to the Summer Games University Youth Camp.

The son of Earl R. and Lois M. (Holmes) Peters, he was born Aug. 24, 1934, in Poweshiek County. He graduated from Montezuma High School in 1952. On April 26, 1957, he married Betty M. Loupee in Newton. He worked as a purchasing agent for The Vernon Company for 20 years and then for Dun-Lap Manufacturing Company for five years prior to being a customer service representative at Tri-County Credit Union for 11 years. He retired in 1996. He was a member of First United Methodist Church and enjoyed playing cards, doing yard work and babysitting.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, the Rev. Craig and Lysia Peters of Davenport and the Rev. Stephan and Susan Peters of Fort Dodge; a daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and Rick Baarda of Sully; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a brother and sister-in-law, Roger and Carol Peters of Grinnell; two sisters-in-law, Margie Loupee and Barbara Slycord; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
