MONROE — Wayne Nearmyer, 89, of Monroe died Wednesday, April 27, 2005 at Skiff Medical Center in Newton.

Funeral services will be Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at the Monroe United Methodist Church. Burial will be at Silent City Cemetery. Walters-Coburn Funeral Home in Monroe is handling arrangements.

Visitation will be held Friday from 2 to 8 p.m. at Walters-Coburn Funeral Home in Monroe, where the family will greet friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Memorials may be given to the Monroe United Methodist Church or to the Monroe Fire Department.

The son of Frank and Leona (Taylor) Nearmyer, he was born on Feb. 17, 1916, in Fairmount. On May 17, 1940, he married Wanda Caulkins in Monroe. A life-long resident of Monroe, Mr. Nearmyer farmed in the area throughout his lifetime. He was a member of the Monroe United Methodist Church. He enjoyed sports and played on the Percy softball team several years ago.

Survivors include his wife; a son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Sandi Nearmyer of Des Moines; a daughter and son-in-law, Judy and James Kelley of Knoxville; five grandsons; three step-grand daughters; two great-grandchildren; and seven step-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Donald.
