Nelda Arline Nicol, 82, of Newton died Friday, Feb. 18, 2005, at Park Centre Health Care in Newton.

Funeral services will be held Friday at 1 p.m. at First Lutheran Church in Newton with the Rev. Howard Vrankin officiating.

Nelda Arline Nicol, 82, of Newton died Friday, Feb. 18, 2005, at Park Centre Health Care in Newton.

Funeral services will be held Friday at 1 p.m. at First Lutheran Church in Newton with the Rev. Howard Vrankin officiating. Burial will be at Newton Union Cemetery. Pence-Reese Funeral Home in Newton is handling arrangements.

Family will greet friends following the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials will be accepted to Alzheimer's Association.

The daughter of Edmund J. and Ella (Ebendorf) Ploog, she was born May 16, 1922, in Fort Dodge. She attended Business College and on Oct. 3, 1944, she married Eugene Nicol in Hollywood, Fla. She was a homemaker and a member of First Lutheran Church. She also was a former board member of The Salvation Army. She enjoyed traveling, playing cards and singing in the choir.

Survivors include three sons and two daughters-in-law, David and Laurie Nicol and Thomas and Laura Nicol, all of Seattle, Wash., and Douglas Nicol of Carrollton, Texas; five grandchildren; a brother, Robert Ploog of Amarillo, Texas; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a brother, Don Ploog; a sister, Helen Balchis; and a daughter, Janet Ross.
