Remona Morgan, 78, of 2009 N. Second Ave. E. in Newton died today, April 15, 2005, at Skiff Medical Center in Newton.

Funeral services will be Monday at 10:30 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Newton. Pence-Reese Funeral Home in Newton is handling arrangements.

Visitation will be held Sunday from 3 to 5 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials will be accepted to the First United Methodist Church, Hospice of Jasper County, Newton Community Theatre or Jasper County Concert Association.

The daughter of Elmer and Irma (Peebler) Copeland, she was born April 12, 1927, near Libertyville. She graduated from Fairfield High School in 1945 and in 1949, graduated from Iowa State Teachers College (UNI) with a bachelor of arts degree in music. On July 9, 1950, she married Byron Dwight Morgan in Fairfield. She was a public school teacher from 1949 to 1953. In 1954, she and her husband opened Morgan Jewelers in Brooklyn and moved the business to the Newton Shopping Center in 1961.

Mrs. Morgan was a member of First United Methodist Church in Newton and sang in the choir for 42 years. She was active in the Newton Community Theatre and the Jasper County Concert Association. She enjoyed her bridge club and church circle and also reading, traveling and snorkeling.

Survivors include her husband; a daughter and son-in-law, Suanne and Art Rolader of Mansfield, Texas; a son and daughter-in-law, Tim and Sandy Morgan of Newton; a granddaughter; a sister, Wanda Short of Kahoka, Mo.; and two nieces.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers-in-law and two nephews.
