Helen K. Moffitt, age 90, long time resident of Colfax, passed away on January 25, 2005 at Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines. A funeral mass will be held on Saturday, January 29, 2005 at 10:00 am at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Colfax. Interment will follow at Colfax Cemetery. Father James Polich will officiate.

Visitation will be held Friday, January 28, 2005 from 3:00 pm until 8:00 pm with a prayer service beginning at 7:00 pm. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Colfax. Family will be present to greet friends from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.

The daughter of John and Catherine (Sada) Tomlonovic, Helen was born August 8, 1914 in Colfax, Iowa. She later graduated from Colfax High School. On May 29, 1937, she was united in marriage to Maurice Moffitt in the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church of Colfax. To this union, four children were born. As a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Colfax, Helen greatly enjoyed her involvement in the Altar and Rosary Society, the Diocesan Council of Catholic Women (of which she was a past officer), and her membership in the Catholic Daughters of America. During her life, Helen taught in the rural schools of Jasper County. She also enjoyed her employment with the Iowa Department of Revenue. Helen will be greatly missed by her loving family.

Survivors include her children, Martha “Marty” Sauer and her husband Reid Stapes, Larry Moffitt and his wife Mary Lynn, Kathy Dobbs and her longtime companion Doug Carlson, and Gary Moffitt and his wife Ellen. She is also survived by ten grandchildren, Monte Moffitt, Joni Givant, Brian Moffitt, Julia Kern, Craig Moffitt, Michael Moffitt, David Moffitt, Louis Sauer, Marcee Shaughnessy, and Laura Gaddy. She will also be missed by her five beloved great-grandchildren.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband, and several brothers and sisters.
