John Burkhardt, 72, of 514 S. 2nd Ave. W., a resident of Newton for 38 years, died Tuesday morning, Jan. 31, at the Skiff Medical Center.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Wallace-Pence Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Newton Union Cemetery. There will be no visitation.

Survivors are his wife, Neva Florine; three sons, Gerald L. of Texas, Duane J. of Des Moines and Don E. of Newton; four daughters, Neva Gurb of Seattle, Wash., Leta Lanphier of Reasnor, Beverly Davis of California and Mary Crane of Newton; 22 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents and several brothers and sisters.

Mr. Burkhardt had been employed in the plumbing and heating business before retiring.

The son of William and Lizabeth Weber Burhkhardt, he was born July 20, 1916 in Linton, N.D.

He was married to Neva Florine Shults Dec. 3, 1940 in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho.
