DES MOINES — Paul L. Minear, 88, of Des Moines, formerly of Newton, died Tuesday, March 29, 2005, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines.

The body has been cremated and memorial services will be held at 3 p.m. Friday at Westover Funeral Home in Des Moines.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to services Friday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to College Avenue Christian Church or The American Lung Association.

The son of Calvin and Cleavie Minear, he was born in Unionville, Mo. He grew up in Newton, where he graduated from Newton Senior High School and worked as a pressman for the Newton Daily News. He moved to Des Moines in 1952 and worked as a printing pressman for Plain Talk Publishing Company and retired in 1978.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was awarded the Purple Heart and Silver Star. He was a member of College Avenue Christian Church and enjoyed golfing and bowling. He was also an avid sports fan, especially a fan of the Chicago Cubs and the Iowa Hawkeyes.

He is survived by his wife, Mardelle Minear of Des Moines; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Douglas and Barbara Minear of Johnston and Dennis Minear of Des Moines; a brother and sister-in-law, Lee and Mary Minear of Windsor Heights; a sister and brother-in-law, Betty and Elmer Snook of Newton; two granddaughters; and one great-grandson.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Glenn and John; and five sisters, Faye, Icle, Irene, Lucille and Gladys.
