BAXTER -- William L. "Bill" Milligan, 84, of Baxter died Sunday, Jan. 9, 2005, in the Monarch Wing of Skiff Medical Center in Newton.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. at the Congregational United Church of Christ in Baxter with the Rev. Rollin Watters officiating. Burial will be at Restland Cemetery in Baxter. Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton is handling arrangements.

Friends may call after 5 p.m. today at the funeral home, where the family will be available from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials will be accepted to Hospice of Jasper County or to the church and may be left at the funeral home or at the church the afternoon of the service.

The son of Loren A. and Iris (Kenyon) Milligan, he was born Jan. 24, 1920, in Baxter. On May 9, 1944, he married Margie C. Dodd in Newton. He was a farmer and also worked in the factory for the Maytag Company. He retired in 1982.

Mr. Milligan enjoyed music, playing his guitar and having "jam" sessions with friends and fellow musicians. He was a lifelong resident of Baxter and a member of the Congregational United Church of Christ in Baxter.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Christie Milligan of Baxter; a daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Lloyd Wiese of Rollingstone, Minn.; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Max and Ruby Milligan and Larry and Rita Milligan, all of Baxter; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, a grandson-in-law and two brothers, Ike and Marvin Milligan.
