Raymond M. McGee, 77, of Newton died Thursday, Feb. 17, 2005, in the Monarch Wing of Skiff Medical Center in Newton.

Funeral services were held today at 11 a.m. in the Education Center of Community Heights Alliance Church, located at 1000 E. 12th St. S., with the Rev. Larry Walker, associate pastor, officiating. Burial was today at 2 p.m. at Sully Cemetery in Sully. Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton is handling arrangements.

Memorials will be accepted to the Monarch Wing of Skiff Medical Center and may be left at the funeral home or the church the morning of the service.

The son of Lewis Lester and Cora (Snow) McGee, he was born June 10, 1927, in Newton. On July 12, 1962, he married Katherine "Katie" VanderPol in Missouri. He grew up in Newton, moved to Bussey in 1938 and returned to Newton in 1962. He worked as a truck driver, in the factory of the Maytag Company and later was an independent contractor for Progress Industries for 20 years. He retired in 2003. He attended Community Heights Alliance Church.

He is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Richard and Beth McGee of Grinnell and Raymond McGee of Gilman; a daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Richard Gummert of Garwin; three step-sons and daughters-in-law, Ronald and Linda Williams of Lynnville, Gary and Linda Williams of Waverly and Dennis and Nancy Williams of Newton; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren; and 16 step-great-grandchildren; a brother and sister-in-law, Roger and Mable McGee of Cherokee Village, Ark.; and special friend, Millie Holdsworth of Newton.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; twin sisters, Irene Stillwell and Maxine Allen; and three brothers, Dale, Earl and Oren McGee.
