Betty L. McDowell, 82, of Newton, formerly of Danville, Ill., died Tuesday, May 10, 2005, in the Monarch Wing of Skiff Medical Center in Newton.

No services are scheduled. Her body was cremated. Burial of her remains will be held at a later date at Spring Hill Cemetery and Mausoleum in Danville, Ill. Wallace Family Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

The daughter of Ed and Ricka (Dobbels) Waterstreet, she was born Feb. 14, 1923, in Danville, Ill. She lived there her entire life prior to moving to Newton in 1984. On Nov. 5, 1941, she married Carl W. McDowell in Danville, Ill. She was a bookbinder for the Illinois Printing Company in Danville, Ill.

Survivors include a daughter, Cindy Reid of Newton; a granddaughter; great-grandson; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother and sister-in-law, Fred and Mary Schatz; and sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy and Loyal Haskins.
