MONROE — Orville "Ralph" Masters, 68, of Monroe died Thursday, March 10, 2005, at Pella Regional Health Center.

Funeral services were held today at the First Baptist Church in Monroe. Burial was at Silent City Cemetery. Walters-Coburn Funeral Home in Monroe handled arrangements.

Memorials may be given to the Orville Ralph Masters Memorial Fund.

The son of Orville and Sarah (Den Otter) Masters, he was born June 6, 1936, in Newton. He graduated from Monroe High School in 1955. He continued his education at Omaha Baptist Bible College and graduated in 1959. On June 4, 1960, he married Shirley Ann Smith in Jackson, Minn. He was a carpenter by trade from 1960 to 1982. He then began training on computers and went to work for the State of Iowa as a computer programer from 1983 to 1999 in Des Moines. He recently was working part time at Natural Therapeutic in Newton and volunteering at R.S.V.P. in Newton. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Monroe.

Survivors include his wife, Shirley of Monroe; three daughters and sons-in-law, Pam and Dave McCumber of Newton, Kim and Randy Costello of Cedar Falls and Brenda and Jim Tudor of Newton; a son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Laurie Masters of Waverly; eight grandchildren; two sisters, Eleanor and Eloise Masters, both of Monroe; and a brother and sister-in-law, Paul and Sharon Masters of Newton.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
