Kellogg – Funeral services for Carroll Lawrence Anderson, 60, of Rt. 1, Box 8, Kellogg, a longtime resident of Kellogg, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 23, at Wallace-Pence Funeral Home in Newton.

The Rev. William Long, pastor of the Kellogg United Methodist Church, and the Rev. Robert Waters, pastor of Kellogg St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, will conduct services. Burial will be in Newton Memorial Park Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home after 8 a.m. Friday. Visitation with the family will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Memorials to the National Kidney Foundation of Iowa, Kellogg United Methodist Church, Kellogg St. Paul’s Lutheran Church or a charity of the donor’s choice will be accepted.

He died Tuesday evening at University Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City of an infection following kidney disease.

Survivors are his wife, Joy; four sons, C. Scott of Mc Cann Village, Michael L. stationed in the Navy at San Diego, Calif., Mark J. of Logan, Utah, and Paul D., at home; a daughter, Shelly Sue (Mrs. Eric) Rahkola of Redmond, Wash.; and a grandson.

Also surviving are his mother, Ruby J. (Mrs. Lawrence) Anderson of Rt. 1, Kellogg; a brother, Gordon H. of West Des Moines; and two sisters, Karna J. Carpenter of Littleton, Colo., and Kathryn Anderson-Helfgott of Bellingham, Wash.

He was preceded in death by his father, Lawrence, in December, 1987.

Mr. Anderson, a member of the Kellogg United Methodist Church, was a baptized and confirmed member of the Bethesda Lutheran Church in Ames and a longtime member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Kellogg. He was a member of the Amboy Grange and the Farmers’ Co-Op Elevator in Kellogg.

He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict.

Mr. Anderson, a master gardener, who had taught in Gruver High School, Semco Community schools and Newton Community schools, farmed with his father for many years.

The son of Lawrence W. and Ruby J. Gist Anderson, he was born July 17, 1931 in Newton, was graduated from Newton Community High School, and in 1957 from Iowa State University in Ames with a major in agronomy and vocational agriculture and later received a degree in industrial arts education from Iowa State.

He was married to Joy M. Westercamp June 23, 1957 in the Kellogg St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.
