Ida Belle Auten Dies Wednesday; Services Friday

Mrs. Frank M. (Ida Belle) Auten, 92, of the Jasper County Home, a resident of Jasper County since 1916, died this morning at the Home.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at the Johnson Funeral Chapel.

The Rev. Robert Gamble of the Colfax Interfaith Center will conduct the services. Burial will be in Slagel Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home after noon Thursday.

Survivors are four sons, Bert of Newton, Gene and Jay, both of Kellogg, and Windsor of Belmont, Calif.; two daughters, Mrs. Paul (Anne Lois) Reynolds and Mrs. Clayton (Margaret) Beveridge, both of Middletown, Conn.; 13 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren.

Also surviving are a sister, Mrs. Arthur (Florence) Simonson of Ruthven; and three brothers, Bert Critchett of Des Moines, Fred Critchett of Capistrono Beach, Calif., and Bruce Critchett of San Antonio, Tex.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, a son, Melvin, three brothers and a sister.

Mrs. Auten was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Newton, the Women’s Society of Christian Service, Women’s Christian Temperance Union, Newton Woman’s Club and Fleur De Lis Club.

Mrs. Auten was a piano teacher for 30 years.

The daughter of George and Alice Johnson Critchett, she was born Nov. 10, 1880 at Marengo and attended Harlan schools and Drake University in Des Moines.

She was married to Frank M. Auten Feb. 5, 1916 at Kellogg.
