SULLY — Harry W. Lanser, 77, of Sully died Sunday, May 1, 2005, at Hospice of Pella Comfort House.

Funeral services will be Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at Sully Christian Reformed Church. Burial will be at Sully Cemetery. Garden Chapel Funeral Home in Pella is handling arrangements.

Visitation is planned for today at the funeral home, where the family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Pella, Pella Christian High School or Sully Christian Grade School.

The son of Arie and Jennie Elizabeth (Baarda) Lanser, he was born Nov. 24, 1927, in rural Sully. He attended Spring Hill Grade School and later Pilot Grove School, where he graduated from the eighth grade. He served in the Iowa National Guard for eight years. On May 11, 1951, he married Neva Van Der Kamp at the Newton Christian Reformed Church. He was a mechanic and owned Sully Sales & Repair in Sully for five years. He worked for several area businesses through the years but had been employed by Hackert Sales & Service since 1974. In 1960, he and his wife moved to Sully. He was a member of the Sully Christian Reformed Church and served as an elder, deacon, adult Sunday School teacher and a member of the Men's Society. He sang in a quartet in his younger years and was a member of the church choir. He enjoyed golfing, fishing and gardening.

Survivors include his wife; four children and their spouses, Marcia (Earl) Rozendaal of Lynnville, Rodney (Sandra) Lanser of Pella, Brenda (Arvin "Scotty") De Nooy of Sully and Brian and Monica Lanser of Lynnville; 16 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two brothers, Louis Lanser and Dean Lanser, both of Newton; and one sister, Wilma H. Carson of Newton.

Preceding him in death were his parents and a daughter, Nancy.
