Harlan D. Kolpin, 73, of Newton died Tuesday, May 24, 2005, at Skiff Medical Center in Newton.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton with the Rev. Gary Marzolf of the First United Methodist Church in Newton officiating. Burial will be at Newton Union Cemetery.

Friends may call from 8:30 a.m. Saturday until the time of the service at the funeral home. Memorials in his name may be left at the funeral home.

The son of Herbert L. and Margaret (Johnson) Kolpin, he was born Sept. 4, 1931, in Aurelia. In 1949, he graduated from Aurelia High School. On April 25, 1970, he married Myra Des Camps in Unionville, Mo. Prior to moving to Newton in 1973, he lived in Chariton and Knoxville. He worked in the factory for the Maytag Company for more than 23 years and retired in 1992.

Mr. Kolpin was a member of American Legion Post 111, lifetime member of the VFW Post 1655, life member of the Korean War Veterans Association and the NRA.

Survivors include his wife; four daughters, Vickie (Scott) McGinnis of Grinnell, Kathy Zack, Cindy Graham and Pamela Craig, all of Cherokee; four sons, Jeffrey (Carla) Kolpin of Baxter, Corey (Missy) Kolpin of Newton and Richard Kolpin and James Kolpin, both of Cherokee; 16 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; a brother, Dennis (Trisha) Kolpin of Plant City, Fla.; two sisters, Betty Reed of Cleveland, Ohio, and Darlene (Gene) Simmons of Columbus, Ohio; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
