Edgar Blaine Jones, 87, of Newton died Sunday, May 15, 2005, at Park Centre in Newton.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton with the Rev. Merle Smith, chaplain of Skiff Medical Center in Newton, officiating. Burial will be at Newton Union Cemetery.

Friends may call after 3 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, where the family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials will be accepted in his name and may be left at the funeral home.

The son of Edgar B. and Lowella (Downs) Jones, he was born Oct. 6, 1917, in rural Mitchellville, Jasper County. On June 14, 1940, he married Eunice Mae Currier in Enid, Okla. He was a factory worker at the Maytag Company and retired in 1973. Mr. Jones was a member of First Christian Church and UAW Local 997, past member of Moose Lodge No. 923, Emerson Hough Chapter of the Izaak Walton League and Central Iowa BBQ Club (a camping club). He enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping and playing the lottery.

Survivors include two daughters, Etta Snow and Connie (Steve) Matsen, all of Newton; a son, Ken "Kenny" (Sue) Jones of Marshalltown; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; three brothers, C. Ray (Mary Evelyn) Jones and Robert (Helen) Jones, all of Newton, and Oren (Dorothy) Jones of Colfax; a sister-in-law, Lucille Jones of Killduff; a brother-in-law, Eugene Bishop of Newton; an aunt; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; a brother, William; and two sisters, Mary and Mildred.
