OTLEY -- Edward Harold Johnson, 82, of Otley died Thursday, Jan. 27, 2005, at his home.

Funeral services will be held today at 2 p.m. at the Monroe United Methodist Church with the Rev. Harold Koughn officiating. Burial will be at Silent City Cemetery. Walters-Coburn Funeral Home in Monroe is handling arrangements.
Memorials may be given to Hospice of Central Iowa or the Monroe United Methodist Church.

The son of Lewis and Sadie (Dop) Johnson, he was born Feb. 21, 1922, in rural Monroe. He graduated from Monroe High School in 1940. On Oct. 21, 1944, he married Catharine Marshall at the Methodist Church in Monroe. He was a dairy farmer for 40 years. He sat on the Board of Swiss Valley and was a member of the Farm Bureau. He worked at Winpower in Newton for more than a decade. In addition to farming, he drove truck, custom farmed, sheared sheep and maintained Elk Rock State Park for the Iowa Conservation Commission. He enjoyed farming.

Survivors include his wife; his children, Lloyd Johnson and his partner Byrd Bettis of Los Angeles, Calif., Laurel Johnson and his wife Korena of Zachary, La., LaVon Roth and her husband Stephen of Newton, LuAnn De Haan and her husband Doug of Otley and Linda Van Hemert and her husband Lyle of Sioux Falls, S. D.; a sister, Leona Buwalda of Hermiston, Ore.; 17 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

His parents preceded him in death.
