Charles L. Janes, 68, of Newton died Tuesday, April 12, 2005, at his residence in Newton.

Memorial services will be held Saturday at 3 p.m. at the Newton Baptist Temple in Newton with the Rev. A.B. Sudbrock officiating. Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton is handling arrangements.

No visitation has been planned. Memorials to the Newton Baptist Temple may be left at the church the day of the service.

The son of Earl and Zelda (Norton) Janes, he was born Oct. 20, 1936, in Medford, Wis. On April 8, 1960, he married Louise H. DeGeus in Mexico. He served in the U.S. Army, owned and operated an auto body repair shop for 10 years in Lakeside, Calif., and retired in 2001. He was a member of Santa Maria Baptist Church in Santa Maria, Calif.

Survivors include his wife; two sisters, Irene Norris of Aurora, Ill., and Dorthy Anderson of Aurora, Ill.; and a brother, Herb Janes of San Diego, Calif.

He was preceded in death by his parents; five children; four brothers and a sister.
