Billy F. Illingworth, 72, of Newton died Friday, April 15, 2005, at Nelson Manor Nursing Home in Newton.

A prayer service will be held immediately following the visitation at 8 p.m. Tuesday at Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton with the Rev. Merle Smith of Skiff Medical Center in Newton officiating. A private family burial will be held at a later date.

The family will greet friends with a coffee time from 6 to 8 p.m Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials will be accepted to Hospice of Jasper County and may be left at the funeral home.

The son of Bennie and Martha (Brue) Illingworth, he was born Dec. 31, 1932, in Newton. On Sept. 22, 1951, he married Donna C. Johnson in Missouri. He worked with the Streets Department for the City of Newton for 25 years and retired in 1985. He was a lifelong resident of Newton.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Steven and Kathy Illingworth of Newton; two daughters and a son-in-law, Pam and John Sockriter and Julie Illingworth, all of Newton; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Fred and MaryLou Illingworth of Russell, Rock and Karen Illingworth and John and Colleen Illingworth, all of Newton; and two sisters and a brother-in-law, twin sister Bette Bowen and Ella and Leonard Savage, all of Newton.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and a daughter, Christine, in infancy.
