Marilyn M. Haynes, 72, formerly of 504 E. 20th St. S. died Sunday, March 6, 2005, at USA Healthcare as a result of complications of Pick's Disease.

A memorial service will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church in Newton.

The body has been cremated, but the family will receive friends Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at Pence-Reese Funeral Home in Newton. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to First Presbyterian Church Music Fund, Willowbrook Adult Day Care Center, Hospice of Jasper County, Newton Public Library or Newton Community Theater.

The daughter of Harold and Eva Dobson Reierson, she was born Dec. 2, 1932, in Marshalltown. She was raised in Garwin and graduated from Garwin High School. On Dec. 16, 1951, she married Gary Wayne Haynes at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. She and her husband and their children moved to Newton in 1957. She retired from Hawkeye Bank (Jasper County Savings Bank) after 18 years. Prior to that, she was employed at Sears Catalog Store in Newton. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Newton for 48 years, sang in the choir for 40 years and served her church in various other capacities. She was a longtime member of the Newton Community Theatre, served as secretary-treasurer and also appeared in numerous musical and theater productions. She also sang in the vocal ensemble "InPersons" from 1973 to 1988. She was an avid bridge player and golfer.

Survivors include her husband; a son, Wayne Harold Haynes of Midland, Mich.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Bonnie Jo and Mark Farland of Cedar Falls and Dana Rae and Frank Hashman of Newton; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents
