OSKALOOSA — Doris Deppe, 71, of Oskaloosa, formerly of Newton, died Thursday, March 3, 2005, at the Hospice Comfort House in Pella.
Funeral services will be held today at 2:30 p.m. at St. James Episcopal Church in Oskaloosa with the Rev. Cathleen Bascom and the Rev. Larry Peterson officiating. Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa is handling arrangements.
Memorials may be made to the Pella Hospice Comfort House.
The daughter of Eddie and Bessie (Morris) Grimm, she was born Dec. 21, 1933, in Iowa City. She graduated from Newton Senior High School in 1951. Following high school, she worked for Maytag Company for nine years. On June 4, 1960, she married Dale Deppe in Unionville, Mo. She drove a school bus for the Oskaloosa Community Schools for 14 years. In 1984, they moved to California and she worked for Wal-Mart. In 1997, the family moved back to Iowa, first to Kellogg and in 2003, to Oskaloosa. She was a member of St. James Episcopal Church and the VFW Auxiliary. She enjoyed cooking.
Survivors include her husband; four sons and three daughters-in-law, Allan and Barbara Darrah of Arizona, Louis and Kim Deppe of Orange Park, Fla., Kevin and Donna Deppe of Prole, and Scott Deppe of Oskaloosa; three daughters and sons-in-law, Denise and Rick Vande Stroet and Dorsha and Dennis Moyer, all of Oskaloosa, and Desiree and Gary Denn of University Park; 22 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; three sisters, Una Walsh of Cedar Rapids, Zelma Harl of Kellogg and Donna Albee of Newton.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a granddaughter and an infant grandson; two brothers, Alford and Albert Grimm; a sister, Jean Nichols; and a daughter-in-law, Kelly Deppe.
