Alfred B. "Al" Deppe, 86, of Newton, formerly of Baxter, died Sunday, Feb. 20, 2005, at Park Centre in Newton.

Memorial services will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. in the Garden Room of Park Centre with the Rev. Michael Dack of the Congregational United Church of Christ in Newton officiating. Private family burial will be held at Bethany Cemetery in rural Baxter.

The family will greet friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials will be accepted in his name and may be left at the funeral home or at the memorial service. Memorials will go toward a gift for Park Centre.

The son of Benjamin and Anna (Stock) Deppe, he was born March 27, 1917, in rural Baxter. He graduated from Baxter High School in 1934 and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Following his time in the service, he lived in Milwaukee, Wis.

Mr. Deppe was a medical electronics specialist for General Electric in the x-ray department of the medical division. After he retired, he moved to Florida, where he lived until moving to Newton in 1998. He was a member of Bethany United Church of Christ in Baxter.

Survivors include a nephew and his wife, Don and Marilyn Deppe of Newton; and other great and great-great-nieces and great and great-great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Reuben Deppe, and a sister, Edna Deppe.
