Darrell A. Cox, 72, of Newton died Saturday, April 16, 2005, in the Monarch Wing of Skiff Medical Center in Newton.

Funeral services will be Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton. Burial will be at Newton Union Cemetery.

The family will greet friends following the burial with a coffee time in the social room of the funeral home. Memorials will be accepted to the Monarch Wing of Skiff Medical Center and may be left at the funeral home.

The son of George Louis and Alice (Kumerow) Cox, he was born Aug. 29, 1932, in Russell. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and worked in the factory of the Maytag Company for 30 years. He was married to Marie (Wieberg) Cox from 1952 to 1967 and Mildred (Hawkins) Cox from 1973 to 1996. He attended First Assembly of God Church in Newton and was a member of VFW Post 1655. He was a lifelong resident of Newton.

Survivors include a son, Cary Cox of Scottsdale, Ariz.; a daughter and her friend, Deb Wogan and Pete Slings of Newton; three grandchildren; his mother, Alice Cox of Newton; five brothers, Vern Cox of Indianola, Bill Cox of Cleveland, Minn., Dave Cox of Minnesota, Dale Cox of Fort Worth, Texas, and Larry Cox of Los Angeles, Calif.; and three sisters, Bev Gibson of Osceola, Larrine Cheatem of Arkansas, and Donna Price of Franklin, Tenn.

He was preceded in death by his father; a brother, Gene Cox; and a sister, Darlene Cox.
