Donald G. Brady, 78, of Newton died Thursday, Jan. 20, 2005, at Skiff Medical Center in Newton.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at Pence-Reese Funeral Home in Newton with the Rev. Merle Smith, chaplain at Skiff Medical Center, officiating. Burial will be at Newton Memorial Park Cemetery.

Friends may call after 9 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, where the family will be available from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Memorials will be accepted in his name to Newton Public Library.

The son of Peter Brady and Mildred L. Shoemake, he was born May 24, 1926, in Roscoe, S.D. He was raised by his grandparents, Charles and Minnie Shoemake. He attended Newton Senior High School and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He worked for Newton Foundry, Parsons Co., Winpower and Iowa Liquor Store. He enjoyed walking, reading, sports and stamp collecting.

Survivors include a brother, Carroll F. Talbot of Newton; two sisters, Edythe "Polly" Maison and Phyllis Trotter, both of Newton; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents; a brother, Robert Talbot Sr.; and a sister, Shirley Elaine Talbot.
