Robert W. Bennett, 79, of Newton, died Monday, Jan. 31, 2005, in the Monarch Wing of Skiff Medical Center in Newton.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, February 04, 2005 at the Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton with Al Sandlin of Holier, Ill., officiating. Burial will be at West View Cemetery in Kirkville.

The son of William Harrison and Jessie Ann (Douglas) Bennett, he was born Aug. 6, 1925, in Richland Township of Wapello County. Robert served his country in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He was united in marriage with Lela Thompson on February 10, 1947 in Ottumwa, Iowa. Robert farmed and worked as an assembler and inspector in the factory for the Maytag Company for 30+ years, retiring in 1986. He was a member of the Grinnell Church of Christ in Grinnell, Iowa.

Those left to honor Robert's memory are his wife, Lela; 2 sons and daughters-in-law, Kenneth and Deanna Bennett of Ira IA, Orrin and Debra Bennett of Prairie City, IA; 4 daughters and sons-in-law, Jennet and Skip Johnson of Surprise, Arizona, Karen Bennett of Newton, Betty and Jim Samson of Newton, Donna and Pat Blythe of Reasnor, IA, 14 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; sister, La Verna Sawyer of California; 2 brothers and sister-in-law, Marion and Louise Bennett of Quincy, Illinois and Clarence Bennett of Newton.
