Cynthia E. Britson Billingsley, 50, of Newton died Friday, May 20, 2005, in the Monarch Wing of Skiff Medical Center in Newton.

Service of Christian Burial will be held Saturday at 4 p.m. at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church in Newton with the Rev. Cathleen Bascom officiating. Private family burial will be held at Newton Union Cemetery. Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton is handling arrangements.

The family will greet friends immediately following the service at the church. Memorials will be accepted to the Jasper County Animal Rescue League and Humane Society and may be left at the church on the afternoon of the service or at the funeral home.

The daughter of John C. and Lila A. (Stallman) Britson, she was born Nov. 30, 1954, in Memphis, Tenn. She graduated from Newton Senior High School in 1973, received a bachelor of arts degree from Truman State University in 1978 and a master of arts degree from Drake University in 1991. She was a teacher at Truro (I-35) schools. On Aug. 25, 1982, she married John E. Billingsley in Eldora, Colo.

Mrs. Billingsley was a member of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, PEO Chapter H.S., Volunteer in Progress (VIP), Questers, St. Martha's Guild, Paul Harris Fellow — Rotary Foundation, The Book Club and was an advocate spokesperson for organ donation. She enjoyed being a hostess for parties and also enjoyed her cats, reading, embroidering, gardening and cooking.

Survivors include her husband, parents and a brother, Gary (Laura) Britson of Des Moines.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Sherry Ann Britson, and her maternal and paternal grandparents.
