IOWA CITY —, 60, of Mingo died Thursday, June 9, 2005, at University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics in Iowa City.

Funeral services will be held Monday, at 10:30 a.m. at the Howard Street Christian Church. Burial will take place at McKeever Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 2 to 8 p.m. at Walters Coburn Funeral Home in Colfax, where the family will greet friends from 2 to 4 p.m.

The daughter of Edward Robert Utley and Zelma Mildred (Flora) Maxwell, she was born on Dec. 24, 1944, in Des Moines. On Oct. 3, 1987, she was united in marriage to Arthur Beals in Colfax. She was an early morning cook at Poppy's Restaurant in Colfax for nearly 20 years and was also a member of the Howard Street Christian Church, as well as a past member of Order of Eastern Star and the Legion Auxiliary. Beals enjoyed cooking and spending time with her dog.

Survivors include her husband of Mingo; her children, Robert Nichols of Des Moines, Christina Nichols of Springfield, Mo., and Amy (Kevin) Miller of Diagonal; several step-children; her mother of Grand River; her grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Debbie Martin of Newton and Diana (Ronnal) Jackson of Grand River.

She was preceded in death by her father and previous husband, Vernon Fred Stodden Sr.
