Ruth A. Baxter, 79, of Newton died Friday, Feb. 4, 2005, at her home.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Community Heights Alliance Education Center, located at 1000 E. 12th St. S. in Newton, with the Rev. Larry Spader officiating. Burial will be at Newton Union Cemetery. Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton is handling arrangements.

Friends may call after 4 p.m. Tuesday at the Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton, where the family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials to the American Heart Association or to American Cancer Association may be left at the funeral home or at the church on the morning of the service.

The daughter of Amos and Alpha (Luing) Dodd, she was born Oct. 24, 1925, in Baxter. On Dec. 18, 1941, she married Alvie L. Baxter in Lancaster, Mo. She was a homemaker and worked during the holiday seasons at the Maytag Dairy Farm. She was a member of the New Life Church of the Nazarene and attended Community Heights Alliance Church. She enjoyed crossword puzzles and bird watching.

She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Scott and Karla Baxter of Newton; four daughters and three sons-in-law, Diana and Lynn Hutchins of Warrensburg, Mo., LaNora "Tink" and Jack Pendroy of Gardner, Kan., Teresa Schultz and Vicki and Ed Moore, all of Newton; 16 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; a son-in-law, Ron Murray of Newton; a brother, Lloyd Dodd of Baxter; four sisters and two brothers-in-law, Irene Pierce and Shirley and Darrell Dee, all of Baxter; LoRena and Roy Winger of Des Moines and Emily Griggs of Newton; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a daughter, Joan; a brother; and three sisters.
