Mikelle A. "Mike" Vorhies, 68, of 2007 N. Third Ave. E. died Wednesday, Feb. 25, at Skiff Medical Center in Newton.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton with the Rev. Frederick Kramer and the Rev. Cathleen Bascom officiating. A private family burial will be held at Newton Union Cemetery at a later date.

Friends may call from 9 a.m. until the time of the service Saturday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Hospice of Jasper County or Progress Industries may be left at the funeral home.

The daughter of Robert and Jo (Yates) Stewart, she was born July 6, 1935, in San Diego, Calif. She attended Riverside High School in California. On July 16, 1954, she married David Vorhies in Kirksville, Mo. She was a resident of Newton for 50 years.

Mrs. Vorhies worked for Newton Furniture for 20 years and enjoyed sewing, computers and her family. She was a member of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church.

Survivors include her husband; a son, Steven Vorhies of Newton; two daughters and a son-in-law, Susie and Ron Jones of Des Moines and Nancy Kauzlarich of Centerville; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; her mother and step-father, Jo and Floyd Jurgens; and a sister, Roberta Udelhoven.

She was preceded in death by her father and a son-in-law, Brian Kauzlarich.
