LAKEWOOD, Colo. -- William D. Smith, 58, of Lakewood, Colo., formerly of Newton, died of congestive heart failure Sunday, Jan. 4, at Skiff Medical Center in Newton.

A time of celebration will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. Wednesday at Metz Community Church in rural Newton. Burial will be in Denver, Colo. Pence-Reese Funeral Home in Newton is handling arrangements.

Friends may call at the Metz Church during the time of celebration and in Denver at a later date. Memorials will be accepted in his name to the Craig Hospital in Colorado.

The son of John David and Zelma Maxine (Piper) Smith on Feb. 2, 1945, in Burlington. He graduated from Newton Senior High School in 1964 and attended the University of Northern Colorado for several years. On May 3, 1964, he married Belinda Jean Hitchler in rural Newton. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and enjoyed camping, hunting and fishing.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Michelle Foote of Aurora, Colo., and Marisa and Chad Hingst of Wakefield, Neb.; his mother; five grandchildren; two sisters, Connie Morrison of Grinnell and Brenda C. Breckenridge of Newton; three brothers, Kenneth Smith of Indianola, Danny Smith of Hartford and Brian Smith of Newton; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father.
