WILLIAMSBURG -- Lois I. Smith, 82, of Williamsburg, formerly of Newton, died Saturday, Jan. 10, at the Williamsburg Care Center in Williamsburg after a brief illness.

A Celebration of Life service will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. in the Uhlmann-Powell Funeral Home in Williamsburg with the Rev. James Stewart officiating. Burial will be at 3 p.m. at Bondurant Cemetery in Bondurant.

Friends may call from 9 a.m. until the time of the service Tuesday at the funeral home.

The daughter of Lewis and Irma (Robb) Zirbel, she was born Oct. 27, 1921, in Malcom. She graduated from Newton Senior High School and attended Captial City Commercial College in Des Moines. While in Des Moines, she worked as a bookkeeper for Solar Aircraft. On Feb. 14, 1944, she married Melvin Smith in Newton. She grew up in the Newton area and lived in Bondurant, where the couple owned and operated Smith Implement for 20 years. Later she moved to the Altoona area and spent the last three years in Newton. She enjoyed quilting, reading and watching the Iowa Hawkeyes play.

Survivors include her daughter, Charlotte Smith of Marion; two grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a sister, Norma DeHoet of Maquoketa.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and an infant sister.
