BAXTER -- Martha Johanna Shipley, 90, died of congestive heart failure of Baxter Health Care Center in Baxter.

Funeral services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at Pence-Reese Funeral Home in Newton with the Rev. Larry Spader of Community Heights Alliance Church in Newton officiating. Burial will be at Newton Union Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home Monday after 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Memorials will be accepted in her name.

The daughter of Ross and Goonie Tweed, she was born March 20, 1913, in Marshalltown. She attended Marshalltown schools. On Sept. 27, 1936, she married Kenneth L. Shipley in Tama. She was a homemaker and helped her husband on the farm. She enjoyed gardening.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Louie James and Karen Shipley of Marshalltown and Kenneth Wayne and Bertha Shipley of Heber Springs, Ark.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Deloris and Bill Bennett of Blomington, Minn., and Joann and Ralph Martin of Oskaloosa; 15 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Gordon Tweed of Marshalltown; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a brother, Russell Tweed; and a sister, Ruth Bjelland.
