Ralph W. Shaver, 79, of 805 W. 28th St. N. died Monday, Feb. 23, at his home.

Funeral services will be held Friday at 1:30 p.m. at Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton with the Rev. David Rex officiating. Burial will be at Newton Union Cemetery.

Friends may call after 5 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home where the family will be available from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials will be accepted in his name and may be left at the funeral home.

The son of Fred and Neva (Rowland) Shaver, he was born May 9, 1924, in Green City, Mo. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and worked in the factory for the Parsons Company. He retired in 1969. He loved animals.

Survivors include two sons and a daughter-in-law, Larry and Sandy Shaver and Terry Shaver, all of Newton; 11 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and special friend, Theodora Shaver.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Charlene Shunk.
