Bertha L. Savage, 94, of Newton died Thursday, Jan. 29, at St. Francis Manor in Grinnell.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton with Glen Oswalt officiating. A private family burial will be held at the Maple Hill Cemetery in Montour.

Friends may call from 9 a.m. Tuesday until the time of the service at the funeral home. Memorials will be accepted to Grinnell Regional Medical Center Hospice and may be left at the funeral home.

The daughter of John and Nellie (Woodman) Holmes, she was born Oct. 20, 1909, in Montour. She was a high school graduate and a rural daily newspaper carrier for several years. She also was a dishwasher and tray preparer at the Shaw's Nursing Home for 16 years. She retired in 1971 and was a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She lived in Montour, Greenfield, Mt. View, Mo., Toledo and became a resident of Newton in 1942.

Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, Leonard D. and Ella Savage of Newton, Donald L. Savage of Des Moines and Robert D. Savage of Austin, Texas; two daughters and sons-in-law, Evelyn R. Kennedy of Newton and Wilda Jennie and James Ackerman of Olivet, Mich.; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and a sister, Nellie Flynn of Toledo.

She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter, Lois M. Woody, two infant grandchildren, three brothers and two sisters.
