Dale G. "Red" Oleson, 80, of 2912 S. Third Ave. E. died Thursday, Feb. 5, at Skiff Medical Center in Newton.

Memorial services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Newton with the Rev. David Wendell officiating. The body has been cremated. Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton is handling arrangements.

The family will greet friends immediately following the memorial service with a coffee time in the fellowship hall of the church. Memorials in his name will be accepted at the church the day of the service or at the funeral home.

The son of Ivan H. and C. Pearl (Griffith) Oleson, he was born March 20, 1923, in Kingsley. He graduated from Moville High School in Moville in 1941 and was a graduate of the College of Engineering at Iowa State University in 1950. He served in the United States Air Force during World War II. On June 24, 1950, he married Carol J. Vander Linden in Des Moines. He was a design engineer for the Maytag Company for more than 28 years. He retired in 1990. Mr. Oleson was a member of the First United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Stan Oleson and Kate Morton-Peters of St. Paul, Minn., and Bruce Oleson of Le Grand; a daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Woodrow Oleson-King of Des Moines; and four grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and a sister.

Those left to honor Red's memory are his wife, Carol of Newton; 2 sons and daughter-in-law, Stan Oleson and Kate Morton-Peters of St. Paul, Minnesota and Bruce Oleson of Le Grand, Iowa; his daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Woodrow Oelson-King of Des Moines, Iowa; and 4 grandchildren.

He served his country in the U.S. Air Force during WWII.

Red was a graduate of Moville High School in Moville, Iowa in 1941 and a graduate of the College of Engineering at Iowa Sate in 1950. He was a design engineer at the Maytag Company for 28 years, retiring in 1990.
