Virgil A. Neubauer, 72, of 313 E. 19th St. N. died Friday, Jan. 30 at Skiff Medical Center in Newton.

Services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton with Rev. John Moore of Our Savior Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will be at Sacred Heart Cemetery in rural Newton.

Visitation will be after 5 p.m. Monday at the funeral home where the family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials in his name may be left at the funeral home.

The son of Albert and Dora Meyer Neubauer, he was born May 23, 1931 in Battle Creek. He had farmed and worked at the Odebolt Chronicle and as a linotype operator and later a composer for the Newton Daily News.

On April 27, 1952, he married Fanchon K. Dahleen in Schleswig. He served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War. He enjoyed his hobbies of woodworking, collecting miniature antique tractors, bird watching, playing cards and taking care of his family. He was a resident of Newton since 1962 and was a member of American Legion Post 111, Newton Elks Lodge and Our Savior Lutheran Church.

Survivors include his wife; two sons and daughters-in-law, Alan and Linda Neubauer of Newton and Dean and Kim Neubauer of Horseheads, N.Y.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Lashelle and Doug Woods of Newton and Lynette and Gary Baker of Newton; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a great-grandson, Cody Neubauer, in infancy.
