KELLOGG -- Hoy R. Modlin, 65, of Kellogg died Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2003, at the Grinnell Regional Medical Center in Grinnell.

A private family service will be held at a later date with Chaplain Cary Van Kampen of Grinnell Regional Medical Center Hospice in Grinnell officiating. The body has been cremated. Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton is handling arrangements.

No visitation is scheduled. Memorials will be accepted to the Grinnell Regional Medical Center Hospice and may be left at the funeral home.

The son of Oliver W. and Mary S. (Ramsey) Modlin, he was born March 1, 1938, in El Paso, Ark. He grew up in Otley. On July 27, 1974, he married Betty J. Hinshaw in Baxter. He was a fork lift operator for the Maytag Company for 25 years. He retired in 1985.

Survivors include his wife; two sons and daughters-in-law, Steve and Lisa Modlin of Knoxville and Joshua and Karie Modlin of Des Moines; five daughters, Donna Modlin of Pleasantville, Lori Wearmouth and Molly Moore, both of Newton, Denis Ridley of Eddyville and Debbie Nash of New Sharon; 16 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; four brothers and sisters-in-law, L.D. "Bo" and Shirley Modlin and Elmer and Judy Modlin, all of Newton, Jim and Linda Modlin of Pella and Bob and Marla Modlin of Kellogg; and two sisters and brothers-in-law, Faye and Seth Clark of Minnesota and Lay and Jim Stein of Knoxville.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.
