William Franklin "Bill " McKee, 88, of Newton, died Saturday, Jan. 17 at Skiff Medical Center in Newton.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at First Lutheran Church in Newton with the Rev. Howard Vrankin officiating. Pence-Reese Funeral Home in Newton is handling arrangements.

Visitation with the family will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. today at First Lutheran Church. Memorials will be accepted to First Lutheran Church, Jasper County Historical Society or Hospice of Jasper County.

The son of Wylie Glen and Pearl (Rexroat) McKee, he was born Aug. 21, 1915, in Marion County. He graduated from Newton Senior High School in 1934, and married Helen Tinnermeier of Newton on July 6, 1941. He served as a member of the Signal Corps in the in the United States Army from 1942-1945 in the Pacific Theater of World War II and was awarded the Bronze Star. He was employed by Swift and Company and Cities Service Oil Company as a salesman. He also worked in the meat departments at Hough's Grocery and City Market, and later owned and operated McKee's Frozen Food Service. Prior to his retirement in 1980, he managed the Newton Mall office of the Jasper County Savings Bank.

Mr. McKee was a member of the First Lutheran Church of Newton, served on The Salvation Army board, was a charter member of the Jasper County Historical Society and was a member of the American Legion Newton Post #111 and the V.F.W. Newton Post #1655.

Survivors include his wife, Helen of Newton; a son and daughter-in-law, Stephen W. and Valerie McKee of Newton; a daughter and son-in-law, Katherine A. and Joseph Reardon of Des Moines; three grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Clyde McKee; and a sister Arden Smith.
